Passkey attestation can provide registration evidence about a newly created credential, but it does not certify that a website is accurate, licensed, reputable, or safe to trust. A passkey record and a business claim are separate questions.
Start with the question being answered
Imagine a fictional library help panel displaying an “attested” label beside a new reading-account credential. A reader wants to know whether the catalogue is maintained by the institution named at the top. Write that question down before interpreting the label: who publishes this catalogue?

Fill in both evidence columns
Use this explicitly hypothetical completed record:
- Credential evidence: the panel says registration completed. No technical response was inspected, so the record describes a screen message only.
- Service evidence: the catalogue names Library A, but no independently obtained institutional record has been compared. Publisher identity remains unconfirmed.
The output is not “trusted library”. It is “registration message observed; publisher not checked”. This wording preserves what was seen without converting a missing check into a positive conclusion.
A practical reading example
Now add a second fictional observation: an independently obtained institutional directory lists a different catalogue address. Put that difference in the service column. Leave the first column unchanged; the new observation does not erase the earlier screen message.
Keep both addresses as private notes rather than live links in this exercise. Record where the directory came from and when you compared it. A reviewer can then identify the disagreement and seek clarification without being told that the technical-looking badge resolved it. No passwords, verification codes or private keys belong in the note.
